8 year-old child hurt in pothole accident – 26th October 2011
8 year old Levy was crossing Sheridan Road on the way home from school earlier this month when she fell after tripping in an unrepaired pothole. A couple who witnessed the incident comforted the bruised and distressed child while an ambulance was called to treat her.
Levy’s Mum, Donna, was fulsome in her praise of the help given to her daughter .
“I got a phone call to say there had been an accident and I was in shock when I was told an ambulance had been called.A Mr.and Mrs.Oliver stayed with my daughter for 20 minutes and covered her with a coat as it was cold and my daughter was distressed and in pain.I cannot thank this couple enough,I am so very grateful to them. The ambulance driver checked Levy over and then brought her home. She was very upset and had bruising and swelling to her knee and hip.”
Mr.Oliver later took the mother to the location of the accident where some 8 potholes were found in the road.Residents claim that they have been reported to the local council on a number of occasions but no repair work has been carried out to date.
Solicitor Kirsty Broadway of Pattinson and Brewer is taking action on behalf of the family to ensure that the dangerous condition of the road is attended to and does not cause further injuries to children and other pedestrians.
Kirsty said:
“People should not be put off complaining when incidents like this happen, and there is no excuse for complacency where the public are concerned. This accident to an 8 year old child on a main road could have been much more serious.Fortunately Levy was lucky but we will insist that the Council face up to their responsibilities and deal with the matter before someone else is hurt.”
To date there has been no contact from the local council in relation to the incident.
