As reported in the Evening Standard this week, a tube worker has allegedly been found to have been posting offensive anti-Muslim taunts on Facebook. He also allegedly posted comments about Asian people and disabled people. TFL, his employer, say they are investigating.
This is a reminder that even actions that do not take place at work or towards work colleagues may sometimes be investigated by the employer.
Employees need to carefully consider the impact of their use of social media, and be cautious about comments made online – particularly where they are expressing controversial views which are likely to be considered unacceptable.
