Inquests
Coroners investigate deaths that have been reported to them if it appears that:
- the death was violent or unnatural
- the cause of death is unknown, or
- the person died in prison, police custody, or another type of state detention
Pattinson & Brewer has extensive experience of acting for bereaved families at inquests. Our solicitors can guide you through the process and represent you to get the answers that you need
Where the death was caused by accident, illness or medical treatment, it may be possible to pursue a civil claim separately from the inquest proceedings. Our solicitors will advise you about this and ensure that evidence is collected and preserved during the coroner’s investigation.
